Previously unreleased, masterfully minimal work from Australia's cutting edge art-school synth-pop outfit Informatics. This material dates from 1980 - 1985 and is finally seeing the light of day thanks to Josh at Dark Entries in SF. Not sure what the hell is going on this video, but who cares?!
The name of the larger compilation was derived from lyrics to this song off their debut 7" Dezinformatsiya. "Living in real time is hard to do."
Although still a bit self-conscious and borderline radio friendly, the combination of 8-bit feel and vintage synths with some 21st century compression is post-worthy. A little grooming, a bit more suffering and these kids could really develop a sound. It is synth meets indie meets navel-gazing pop. Straight outta...Texas? Love it. While this song is uncomfortably close to mainstream for my circuit boards, this deconstructed remix by NYC incognitos Cereal Spiller is just off the beaten path enough to ensure safety. The real winner here, tho, is the animation created by UK-based (crazy) artist Cyriak Harris.
So, I pretty much avoid big time acts and there are very few "modern" bands that make what I deem to be exceptionally rad music. LCD Soundsystem, however, is the king + queen of them all.
